Friday prayer and visitors
This page is for people who are new to Toronto Unity Mosque through the El-Tawhid Juma Circle (ETJC). It explains how to ask for the address, what to expect on a Friday, and how community members join when they cannot travel. For our history and values, read Our Story. For statements and longer reflections, see the blog.

Before you arrive
- Email first. Write to info@jumacircle.com with your name, the date you hope to attend, and any access needs. The congregation meets at a private address in downtown Toronto, so staff can confirm timing and send practical directions.
- Plan for the window. Friday programming is typically advertised as 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern time. Arrive in time to settle in before the khutba when possible. If you are running late, enter quietly and join the circle when invited.
- Dress for comfort. ETJC spaces welcome a wide range of dress. If you prefer traditional prayer dress, bring it. If you prefer everyday clothing, that is welcome too. The community asks attendees to respect one another and to follow the etiquette read aloud at the start of the gathering.
During the service
Friday prayer at ETJC is led in rotation. Members of the jamaat may give the adhan, offer the khutba, and lead salah. Women, men, and trans attendees pray in one circle without a gender partition. If you have only prayed in segregated mosques before, listen for the short orientation that names safety, confidentiality, and shared leadership.
After prayer there is often tea, conversation, and mutual support. Questions about Islam, identity, or local resources are common. You are not required to share your story on a first visit.
Joining from a distance
Some members connect by video when health, travel, or conscience keeps them home. Ask in your introductory email if remote attendance is available for the week you plan to join, and mention your time zone so hosts can suggest the best link.
After your visit
If ETJC was a good fit, consider introducing a friend through the same email channel so hosts can plan seating. If you are researching how to seed a similar circle in another city, say that in the subject line so volunteers can point you to written materials on jumacircle.com.
